You’ve probably heard the term ‘nice guys finish last’. It’s a very common phrase within the dating world but what actually makes a nice guy finish last.
The ‘nice guy syndrome’ comes around when guys think that in order to be loved, they need to constantly show that they are lovable. They spend all their time trying to demonstrate this to women and they are afraid of disappointing women in any way.
Let’s say someone with nice guy syndrome is interested in a girl, their phone buzzes with a message from them saying ‘Hey, I have a favour to ask’ They might already have a full day but before they even know what the favour is, they know that they will say yes to whatever it is, even if it disrupts their day.
The problem with this? They never get their own needs met because they are putting the women’s way above their own and this can later on create some issues of resentment.
It comes back to the push and pull of relationships, the equal balance of give and take. Now this doesn’t mean we should adopt the ‘treat them mean, keep them keen’ motto. This moves nice guys past the equal balance of a relationship and straight into the jerk zone. It’s people that adopt this motto to dating that end up taking women for a ride, and is basically the gender reverse of ‘nice guys finish last’.
